The Tickwood Stringband (known to friends and fans as the Ticks or
Tickwoods) are an old-time string band based in Ottertail County, Minnesota.
They have been playing music for dances and concerts around the region for
over four years. Although considered an old-time band, playing Appalachian
fiddle tunes and stringband music, the Tickwoods also like to occasionally
delve into Irish music. The bands business card (sporting a number of lively
dancing ticks) sums up their availability to perform as “music for some
occasions”. If they are booked to play a wedding dance, two things they will
not do is play the chicken dance or the bunny hop. One of their favorite things
to do is play for called square dances/contras. Nothing beats a hall of
swinging, spinning, and yelling dancers on a Friday night. This group of four
musicians are known for their high energy, good humor, and fun-for-all-ages
events.
